MASSIVE, lemme see you raise your hand…
People of FLATBUSH - Brooklyn , what’s really going on?

This past Sunday I was in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn getting my nails done and then took the train to Church Ave. As usual the streets were hectic, kinda gritty and of course filled with the requisite pushy west indian grannies vying to get to the green grocers (korean store that sells veg and other west indian goods) early enough to get fresh pigtail and salt beef and of course you have your rum shop lingering perverted grandpa’s. I’m used to it, for better or for worse it is what it is,lol!
This section of Brooklyn is notoriously known to have a shabby look to it no matter what the hell you do, which is extremely unfortunate. I mean I love this side because this is original community I where grew up and because my west indian roots are embedded here. However, I’m too through with the lackluster efforts of a large portion of the residents who fail to want to an orderly and clean community.
Why can’t black folk ever demand the best out of each other? huh, why?
For how long will we allow our community to look like this? Come on people, really!!
Is this shit necessary? This is NOT a village market, this in fact is the side-walk in-front of a store front business. Which just so happens to be next door to a newly opened eatery, for gods sake. Could someone explain why it is necessary to have all 1500 coconuts and 1200 sticks of sugar cane out on de road?
This man’s piece of the American Dream is nicely located between the edge of the local corner store and smushed between the building next door. If you think the pic is an unsightly mess, trust me, the real thing is a freaking beaut. The shit is, all this fuckery he’s selling is being sold three stores down at the .99cent store. Again, I ask you why?
It makes me angry to see this shit.
“Gentrification” is running a fucking muck all over Brooklyn and continues to displace all those who are deemed powerless and void of any opinion; yet yall selling coconut water and eating sugarcane. Nice. These bastard landlords who’re evicting people just like the flatbush massive, don’t care about anything other than that almighty dollar.
I mean, we’ve got a pretty neatly tucked community that encomasses prime real estate, especially since Downstate and Kings County Hospital is damn near the epicenter. A large amount of white Dr.s and their families have been scooping up homes and apartments at dirt cheap prices; for god sake, every time you turn around realtors are building “Condos” in every lil rat hole lot they find. Yet we black folk are just content in dwelling in medicority - if that. Just fabulous. I give this place a good 3 to 5 years before alot of those who live here now, won’t be able to afford to. Dr’s Row isn’t too far and as it is people cant afford to even think of buying in that section, because prices are outrageous.
Black people, cherish what you have!!! I’m tellin you, you people are going to regret ever allowing this area to be run down.

As a person who grew up in this neighborhood, I have to say that there are some good and bad points. I mean where else can you get jerk chicken from at 3am? You have every kind of food your little heart desires, but you also have to by pass the dude selling coconuts on the corner, the mexican selling flowers out of the shopping cart, the muslim selling insence in the laundrymat and hairdresser shop. Oh yeah…did i mention that you can also find at least 3 hairdressers per block? why oh why my blk people? lets not even mention the summer time, when everyone with a ride MUST play their music at deafening levels…why oh why must that be? why can’t folks throw their garbage in the trash like all other residents? why must blk ppl BBQ on the front stoop of their building, or better yet fire escapes in the summer?
We’ve got to do better!
